The train ride from Vatnahalsen back to Bergen wasn’t until 3:40 pm, so we had all morning to explore. I’ll let the pictures do all the talking so I don’t bore you with my ramblings.
EXCEPT, I will add that meeting this guy was a real treat. We walked by a little cafe in the middle of nowhere. I’m talking there was a waterfall directly across, and a dirt road that led to Myrdal; that was it. I tried some really interesting Norwegian brown goat cheese, paired with strawberry jam. Sounds weird, I know, but the sweetness of the jam worked really well with the strong taste of the cheese. I also sampled some goat salami. And when I say I sampled these things, I wasn’t shy; I just kept going the entire time Michael and I kept talking.
I wish I could’ve kept talking to Michael all day. He had some pretty interesting and inspiring stories to share. Alas, he was on the clock, and after half an hour, customers started showing up, and I took that as my cue to head out.
A couple hours later, Trevor and I found ourselves back at the hotel awaiting our train.
Upon arriving back at beautiful Bergen, we headed for Sebastian’s. We had stayed with Sebastian the night before heading out for Barlestrand and Flam, but we had been so tired from our hike that we went straight to bed. This night, we were able to chat away the night, discussing life and family and sharing some laughs along the way. Sebastian and his lovely wife, Eri, wined and dined us, and even showed us a really cool movie called Before I Fall. It was a great night spent in great company, and I hope our paths cross again.
